One question I was asked when they don’t get a strong enough 3g or 4g network when they are out and about and have no choice but to connect to Public WiFi. We know that our users do need to be able to connect to the internet on the go and we advise them to use their company mobile to do Tethering & portable hotspots which allows them to have a secure connection to the internet. I know this is a Human Resource’s issue to address with the individual users, the question is how do we stop them from connecting to unsecured Public WiFi networks, or how do we monitor what WiFi networks they have been connecting to. It has come to light that staff are not following this and are instead connecting their laptops to public networks such as Coffee Shops, Trains or Public Houses.

Users working on home connections are responsible for ensuring their service is secure, and that default passwords or similar security settings on home routers have been changed. Public connections to the internet, or connections that report they may not be secure, must not be used. When using devices outside of the office environment staff must ensure that they are using only secure network connections. We have the following policy in place at our work
